Member Announcements

  • Heather Whelan is still having travel articles published monthly in Motorhomes, Caravans and Destinations She also has a walking article in the current (September) edition of Wilderness magazine.
  • Maureen will have poetry published in Blue Hour, Whispers and Blackmail this month; she is also currently in the process of putting together a poetry book with Steele Roberts.
  • Daphne had a poem published in the poetry day broadsheet.
  • Kathy had a short fiction piece and Jac a poem published in Take Flight July 2014.
  • Karen Phillips has had an email from Takahe saying they would consider publishing an unplaced short story she wrote for their competition.
  • Lesley’s first professional editing student has recently been on work experience at Steele Roberts, and after her first week there was offered a small paid job by them.
  • A book Lesley worked on (critique and then full edit) has been published in the UK, and recently got a rave review from Graeme Beattie on his blog.
  • PEN UK (the headquarters of PEN International) recently conducted an extremely comprehensive (read lengthy and complex!) survey about their service and what outlying branches do.  Lesley answered it, and then had to do a follow-up interview with Emma Wadsworth-Jones over aspects of it.  It took 45 minutes and it was tricky working out a time when we’d both be compos mentis!  It has led to some changes for Lesley – she’s realised they really do want to know who’s written to whom so they have more idea of how their appeals are being used.  So now she’s asking her letter-writers to let them know when they’ve responded to an appeal; up until now she’s only asked to be given copies of any responses.
