Book Launch – The Secret Staircase by J.L. Williams

RSVP jwilliamswriter@gmail.com or neill@craniums.co.nz

A modern children’s classic from award-winning, NZSA Northland historical fiction author
J. L. Williams.

An old house, a secret staircase, and a hidden time-tunnel.

A thrilling time-travel adventure for readers aged 8–12.

A quaint old hotel in a sleepy seaside town holds a secret—a hidden staircase that opens a gateway to a tumultuous past.

When twelve-year-old Jay and his younger sister Poppy visit their eccentric grandmother in Russell, they’d rather be anywhere else. But strange sounds only they can hear—mysterious voices, fireworks, or is it gunfire?—make them question their surroundings.

If you enjoy Lucy M. Boston’s Green Knowe series or The Secret Lake by Karen Inglis, you won’t be able to put down this gripping time-travel mystery. The Secret Staircase delves into themes of colonisation and culture with sensitivity and heart, launching readers on an unforgettable adventure.

Can Jay and Poppy trust their new-found friends, find the treasure, and return to the present before it’s too late?

CONGRATULATIONS!

NZSA Northland member, Mary Watkins, pen name Tanya Maree, has published her first book, after living in NZ for 34 years. Mary is originally from Seattle, Washington.

This touching debut transfixes the reader, allowing her to resonate deeply with them. The emotions in her work are evocative and ultimately hopeful. The autobiographic approach allows the reader to see her complete life story commencing from her childhood and continuing to her forties. Tanya provides a well-balanced sensitivity along with complete honesty. Her informal approach creates a bond between the reader and author as the reader is invited deep into her personal life, from stories of growing up, to finding and losing love. As Tanya travels around the globe, the reader shares moments of unrest, emotion, wit, hope, pain, fearfulness and honesty. A Gemini with a Gypsy Soul is a well-written and touching work worthy of one’s attention.

After surviving a mildly dysfunctional but fun childhood, the writer captures the trials and tribulations of her need for exciting adventures and a genuinely heartfelt desire to find that perfect someone.

Books are available on Amazon.com, Good Reads, in e-book, soft, and hardback, and also locally in the Mangonui and Kaitaia area.

(The cover image is of the hunting camp where Mary worked in Southwest Alaska.)
