COMMUNITY OUTREACH:
FROM SHERRYL CLARK
I’m collecting books (mostly secondhand) for the prison library at Northland Correctional Centre at Ngawha, inspired by reading an article about the librarian and the library. Much of the collection is donated, with little funding available, and I believe gaining or improving literacy is a really important step towards a better life, for adults as well as children.
If you would like to contribute, the librarian is particularly looking for books by Conn Iggulden, Terry Pratchett and Bernard Cornwell, any science fiction and fantasy novels, plus books about animals, geography, travel and cars.
If you could bring them to the AGM, that would be great, and I will collect and deliver.

From Meredith Wightman – Fictions Collection Librarian
As part of the 2024 Whangarei Fringe Festival, on Saturday 5 October Whangarei Libraries are looking at having an event that connects local authors with their readers. As a starting point, we were wondering if there were any local authors who are publishing a fiction or nonfiction book in the first half of this year and would like the opportunity to come and talk about their work and promote it directly – either as part of a small panel or as an individual. We are just in the early stages of planning, so would appreciate hearing from interested authors. Please contact us on: meredith.wightman@wdc.govt.nz
