CONGRATULATIONS!

NORTHTEC CREATIVE WRITING EXCELLENCE AWARD

It’s our pleasure to announce that NorthTec Creative Writing graduate, TONI DALY, is the recipient of this year’s Excellence Award, sponsored by NZSA Northland, NorthTec and NZSA (PEN inc). Along with her $500 prize, Toni will receive one year’s complimentary NZSA membership. A well-deserved recognition of her accomplishment!

Toni, who writes as Lindy Kato, left school at fifteen and eventually trained as a psychiatric nurse. Following seventeen years nursing, she spent the next fifteen years in the revolving care of the Mental Health Team she had previously worked for, diagnosed with something she didn’t have. After gaining an MSc in ecotoxicology, and a teaching diploma during these harrowing times and eventually a doctorate (genetics), she enrolled in the NorthTec diploma because she knew she would need support to write her story and it would be cheaper than engaging a psychologist!

Vale, Evon Morgan

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the sudden passing of Evon. Her bookshop, Book Inn in Te Kamo, Whangārei, was a precious treasury. Her devotion to local writers and the promotion of our creative output will never be forgotten.  Evon will be greatly missed by our community of readers and writers.

Published by Patricia Fenton

“The way we were” I began my teaching career in New Zealand and later worked in international schools around the globe before being appointed to the International Baccalaureate with responsibility for authoring curriculum and professional development publications. In recent times, I’ve combined my passion for writing and education to produce my first novel, Beyond the Rimu Grove. My aim was to capture and communicate “The way we were.” I’m now working on my second novel entitled War Bride. It’s a fictionalized account of the life of my late mother-in-law, Pru Fenton who met and married her Kiwi soldier in Cirencester, England in 1942.
